the host can also "gift" troops to said companions to give them a chance to lead a small army in battle. The closest thing we can get to co-op without taking an ass-load of time is probably having everyone except the host be the companions of said host. Having all the players being independent will just take soo much work it will be a really big pain the rear end.

The Mount and Blade game design was not planned for MP in the Campaing map.

I mean, yes it is all do-able in terms of code, but a lot of hardcore and hardcoded systems of the game should be re-made to handle situations like this and many others. A player is taking a walk on his town, in the "City/Town" Scene, and suddenly another set a siege on that town?. How to handle a third (or more) player/s joining a started battle? In the game, the battle restart from beggining. You cant force other players to stand by time while u lurk around in the map.
